Translating literary novels comes with unique challenges because of the complex mix of language, culture, and style. This study closely examines the demands and difficulties of literary translation by looking at Herta Müller’s novel Atemschaukel, known for its poetic richness, historical depth, and complex metaphors. By analyzing the translation process, this research highlights the balance between staying true to the original text and adapting it for the new audience. It focuses especially on the challenges of Müller’s distinctive style, including her broken narrative, vivid symbolic images, and layered historical references. The study also looks at how cultural details and idioms are translated while keeping the original’s literary quality intact. Through comparing different translations and translation theories, this research aims to identify effective methods for transferring literary art across languages and cultures. In the end, it adds to the academic conversation on literary translation by suggesting ways to handle the complexities of conveying deeply expressive works in different linguistic and cultural settings.
